Porn, perversions and sexual pestilence

It is my opinion that men are (generally) stronger than women, men tend to have more physical strength and are certainty less agreeable, in that it is harder to change a mans opinion, as I've heard many women complain about in the past. Men are definitely as destructive as they are creative, as most accomplishments and failures of mankind can be accounted to men, like James Brown famously sung, it's a mans world.

But that being said, women possess a strength and ability that cannot be compared to anything. Men may have built monuments and societies, but women create life, in which without, monuments and societies could not exist. Women should therefore be protected, not preyed upon, by those who are stronger. We call the earth mother nature, perhaps our relationship with nature is a reflection of how we treat women?

Porn is something that, in my experience at least, has somewhat been encouraged in modern society. At school I was taught that masturbation is natural and to a subtle degree that porn is harmless. I would agree, masturbation is somewhat natural and many may do it, but it is something we have to grow out of in favor of more meaningful relationships with ourselves and others. I do not think it's a sin to touch yourself, it is a sin to build you existence around it.

However my original thoughts of porn changed dramatically when I grew older and realized the damage it had had on me and others. For those who do not know, porn releases dopamine in the brain, this chemical is our brains way of saying "well done, you did something". It is the chemical that rewards us when we eat, have sex, do something that we feel proud of etc. But the body, unlike the mind, does not have a moral compass and many of us can become slaves to our biological functions.

This can be dangerous because dopamine can desensitize us. What starts of as a rewarding hit of dopamine can quickly lose it's novelty, and we move onto harder and more extreme activities to satiate ourselves. Humans can become bored and we seek the original enjoyment from new things. It is like when someone smokes a ciggerete, they feel good, but after a while they are smoking just to feel normal. Porn is no exception and due to the nature of the industry, pornography can, and often does, lead us to think and act on desires we originally did not have.

Not to mention that porn degrades women, reducing them to tools or objects of desire. This is a terrible message to put across especially as the internet is so widely accessible to younger and younger audiences as time goes on. Although many in my circle of belief may chastise me for saying this, but in all fairness, art that is somewhat provocative and shows off women in a sensual but in a more wholesome way, is completely different, or even planet's away from what the porn industry produces.

In my own personal experience my Dad was very "into" porn, and this led him into a path of sexual deviances. But in his whole life he could never hold down a true relationship, I wasn't born into a family as much as I was born amongst him and his many partners. His relationships where never truly satisfying and the women he left behind where, as I used to think, had the life sucked from them. It is easy to blame porn for these things although there where other factors, such as drugs and alcohol, but his ideals of women where greatly distorted nonetheless.

All in all porn, at least in my experience, had contributed to the collapse of my family, had changed my desires and perverted the nature of sacred bonds around me. It is difficult to see and to accept sometimes, but this is how addiction works. Women are to be respected, not used for profit or to mislead men. To quote James Brown once more, this is a mans world, but it would mean nothing without a women or a girl.

I cannot speak for other families, but I do not doubt for a second that many family's have been choked, destroyed and prevented by secrets, distorted ideals and people led down ally's of dark desires in a "carrot on a stick" fashion. I am happy to confess that I have had a porn addiction, and in some ways I suppose I still do, after all recovery is a journey not a destination, and I will say my life had changed when I started to take religion and God more seriously. And I know that this being a Christian blog, it would be fair to assume I thank Jesus for my strength.

However I feel that this is an important subject, too important to exclude those without faith. For anyone who is reading this and is not religious, for your family's sake, your future family's sake, your relationships and yourself, please ask yourself if it is something that helps or hinders your life. There is plenty of information out there. And for a little bit of number fun, if you write 1-9 through the alphabet and repeat this across all the letters, you find that f, o and x are the numbers 6. Remember that when you see site's that have XXX in their title or description.
